NEW YEAR IN GRAN CANARIA!

Picture of the beach during dusk. The colours look sensational!

This year I decided to do things a bit different. Normally I would spend New Year’s Eve in cold Britain but I wanted to experience something completely different. I wanted to be in a warm, tropical climate but didn’t have any plans whatsoever. One of my close friends suggested that we go to Liverpool, York, London or Dublin but the prices for just staying over for a few nights was astonishing and the local transport was also over our budget. She wanted to spend at least a few days in a different city because her birthday was also a couple of days after New Year’s Eve. Then I suggested that it might be better to go somewhere in Europe and I managed to find a flight to Gran Canaria! It was through TUI and before you know it within 6 hours we were in the Canary Islands! My friend packed her suitcase within 2 minutes and I booked an apartment using booking.com and also booked a flight back through kiwi.com.

We explored various shops around Las Palmas, situated along the beach area especially the little, intricate tourist shops. My friend and I love to collect crystals and we bought quite a few as they had a variety of these to choose from which are not always available in the UK. We also checked out two shopping malls. One of them is located near the port which is Centro Comercial El Muelle, Muelle Sta. Catalina, s / n, 35008 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, Spain and the second one located on the other side of the port Centro Comercial Las Arenas Ctra. del Rincón, s/n, 35010 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, Spain.

On the way back, we had a five hour stopover in Lanzarote! This was really exciting because the flight from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote was on an Air Europa aircraft which was really small. The journey was only half an hour long. We didn’t venture out anywhere however we took some scenic pictures around the airport and managed to get our last bit of vitamin D before we arrived back to the UK. We flew with Jet2Airways and arrived in the evening.

It was a shock to the system! But overall it was an awesome break for almost a week and during New Year’s Eve we sat on top of our apartment terrace and watched all the fireworks set off around Las Palmas. We could see people celebrating on their roof terraces and cheering as the clock struck midnight! Plus all the ships also set off their horns all at the same time like a musical instrument. It was strange to be back as it was cold and dark compared to the tropical climate in Gran Canaria. #shopping #fashion #travel #grancanaria #sunset #crystals #jet2airways #aireuropa #tui #flight #lastminute #newyear #newyearseve #holidays
