Since 1985 Leicester have hosted the carnival every year on the first Saturday of August. It has been known to be the largest multicultural event in Leicester as it hosts several live performances and a parade around the City Centre and int Victoria Park which has many food and clothing stalls with a fun fair.
Each year Leicester Carnival focus on a theme. This year the theme was Windrush which marked the Caribbean people's contribution to the Cultural and Contribution towards development in the UK.
The purpose of the Leicester Carnival is to commemorate the emancipation of slavery in the West Indies. This took place in 1834. The carnival brings the community together from all walks of background. It is a fun day which has plenty of things to do around Victoria Park such as the fun fair, food stalls, live music. A great way for families to have a get together and enjoy the day with great positivity!
